Adrian Goicoechea Selfjord was born in Trondheim, Norway. His first teacher was his father, whom had been part of the 1st violin section of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra for 42 years.
At the Trondheim Music School he was taught by Sven Olav Lyngstad. He later went on to study with Ian Hedley.

Aged 13 he entered the “Young Talents” program and later the prestigious “Conservatory Class” at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where he studied with Piotr Janowski and Alf Richard Kraggerud. With Piotr being a former student of Jascha Heifetz, Adrian was taught at the highest, violinistic level imaginable. This strong influence is noticeable in his approach to playing the violin.

In 2008 he entered the class of Marianne Thorsen and Bård Monsen, at the Department of Music (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) in Trondheim.

He moved to Germany in 2009 to continue his studies with Ingolf Turban, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. In the summer of 2015 he graduated with a Master’s degree from the same university.

Adrian has received masterclass-tuition by Mauricio Fuks at Barratt Due Music Institute in Norway, “Violin Master Classes 2009” at the Kronberg Academy in Germany and at “Cours D’Interpretation et Concerts 2009” in Villefavard, France.

He has also enjoyed tutelage from Tibor Varga, Vartan Manoogian, Henning Kraggerud, Key Märkl, Markus Wolf, Julia Fischer, Thomas Christian, Guy Braunstein and Zakhar Bron.

As a composer he won 1st prize in the international soundtrack contest “Filmtonart 2012” in Munich, Germany.

From August 2015 – April 2016 he was a member of the quintet “SPARK – The Classical
Band”.

He plays violins made by Christian Lijsen, Lorenzo Cinquepalmi and a bow by Wolfgang Romberg.
